If you are looking for things to do in Bedford, Pennsylvania, you should consider the Fort Bedford Museum. This museum is located on Fort Bedford Drive along the beautiful Raystown Branch Juniata River. It was built in 1958 by residents to remember the original Fort Bedford and Bedford's past.
Quick History of Fort Bedford
Fort Bedford was a British military fortification during the French and Indian War. It was built in 1758. It served as a supply hub and communications center for the British military along the Forbes Road during the Forbes Expedition. The Forbes Expedition was a military operation to capture Fort Duquesne (now Pittsburgh) from the French.
What To Expect At The Fort Bedford Museum
The museum may appear to be modest from the outside, but it is actually quite large, with three main rooms and over 4,000 artifacts. The first room includes an orientation video and exhibits about Fort Bedford as well as the French and Indian War. The second room includes exhibits about transportation and the military, and the third room includes exhibits about Bedford's history. You can explore each of these rooms at your own pace.
Bill’s Highlight From The Fort Bedford Museum
I really enjoyed my visit to the Fort Bedford Museum. If I had to pick one highlight from my visit, it would be the original flag that is hanging in the first room. This flag is huge and is one of the rarest 18th-century British ensigns in North America.
