Things To Do In Pennsylvania: Uptown Chalk The Block Festival (Somerset, PA)

8/19/2026

If you are traveling through the Laurel Highlands in late July and are looking for free things to do, male sure check out the Uptown Chalk The Block festival. This is 100 things to do in Pennsylvania, part five.

The Uptown Chalk The Block is a chalk street painting festival in Somerset, Pennsylvania. It is the first and oldest street painting festival in Western Pennsylvania.

Every year in late July, artists from all over the area descend on Uptown Somerset, and turn the streets of Somerset into colorful works of art. It feels like you're walking through an outdoor art museum as it’s happening. This is a fun, local festival that also includes live music, food trucks, vendors and competitions for all ages. Last year's event also had a car cruise and 5k run/walk.

The event is free to attend with plenty of parking at nearby garages and on side streets.

Next year the chalk the block festival will be held on July 23rd, 24th and 25th. The festival is free. Check Chalk The Block’s website for details.
